COR -- the Kashruth Council of Canada, Canada’s largest kosher certification agency, is pleased to announce the appointment of Rabbi Tuvia Basser as its new Chief Executive Officer. Rabbi Basser has had a distinguished career in the for profit sector, having worked at Canada’s largest company at the time, Nortel Networks for twenty years, in senior management positions including Director of Engineering, Nortel Israel. In the not for profit sector, Rabbi Basser has lectured at schools and synagogues across Toronto for many years and was the founding principal at Toronto Talmud Torah. Rabbi Basser is also a noted scholar, having authored the Artscroll Maharal M’Prague Pirkei Avos.

“My goals,” relates Rabbi Basser, “are to improve service to all of our customers, and continue building an institution that benefits the entire Jewish community.” Rabbi Basser has set a motto for the COR as “more COR kosher, in more places.” This relates to extending the availability of COR certified food products for the entire range of kosher consumers, but also expanding COR’s programs in the community.  “COR is a community organization,” Rabbi Basser explains, “so serving the community will be amongst my highest priorities.”

Rabbi Basser will be working alongside a seasoned COR team including Rabbi Yaakov Felder, Vice Chairman of the Rabbinical Vaad Hakashrus of Toronto. “In Rabbi Basser, the COR has gained a CEO who combines years of business management experience with a vast knowledge of Jewish law,” commented Rabbi Felder. “I have no doubt that he will excel in his new position.”

The staff of the COR and the Jewish community at large wish Rabbi Basser great success.
