Do you have a love for food, the arts, or the environment? If so, you might find a home at the Three Sisters’ Kitchen Café (3SK). Michael and Aharona Gans, owners of 3SK, a new restaurant located at 1054 Eglinton Ave W., Toronto, bring their culinary and corporate social responsibility backgrounds together to give you an ecofriendly and tasty dining experience. With Michael and Aharona’s expertise as a French pastry chef and personal chef respectively, 3SK had a lot of interesting flavours in store.
Michael discusses some of the unique aspects of 3SK, specifically the coffee. “In our restaurant, we roast our own coffee beans, and all of our coffee beans are organic and fair trade. We make our coffee using the aeropress, which cuts out about 70% of the acidity in the coffee, making it smooth. We also have fresh baked muffins and cookies. Our quiches have gluten free and organic spelt options and organic spelt challahs are available on Fridays. And everything is cholov yisroel. ”
Michael and Aharona started out making 3SK’s olive spreads about three years ago, but always wanted to open up a retail front café. They felt that there was more to food than just making the products – they wanted to interact with their customers face to face, creating a space where people feel comfortable, inspired, healthy, and connected.
So, why “Three Sisters”? Aharona comes from a family of three girls who all love to cook and were part of the inspiration to start the café. But there’s more. When corns, beans, and squash are all planted together they support each other’s growth and are called three sisters. As Michael says, “3SK is a place that supports local businesses, featuring local products and hanging local artists’ work in the café. It’s a community space that helps support each other’s growth.” At 3SK, there’s more than just food on the menu!
